URBANDALE, IA – JUNE 17, 2019 – The Patriots Foundation has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against Dan McCready, candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives for North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District. The complaint details how McCready used corporate resources to benefit his campaign, a violation of federal prohibitions on corporate spending for federal elections.

McCready is the Co-Founder and a Managing Partner of a clean energy investment firm, Double Time Capital. McCready has repeatedly touted this experience on the campaign trail. However, a Fox News story investigated McCready’s record with Double Time Capital, pointing to corporate connections to Chinese goods in contrast to McCready’s stated opposition to outsourcing. This has become a political issue raised by the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF) and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).

However, rather than use campaign resources to address these political claims, McCready’s company is the only entity who has responded. Lawyers for the corporation have sent threatening letters to CLF and the NRCC citing the harm done to McCready’s reputation. This legal assistance to his campaign from a corporation constitutes a violation of federal law.

Per the Patriots Foundation complaint:

“Mr. McCready may not use his position as Managing Partner at Double Time Capital to marshal corporate resources in support of his congressional campaign. He may not make his business record an issue in the campaign then use his company to respond to political criticism under the implausible pretext that his political opponents were attacking the company.”

The Patriots Foundation has asked the FEC to conduct an investigation into these serious violations of federal law and stop the McCready campaign’s use of corporate resources for political gain.
